Today’s lesson occurs at the beginning of what may be referred to as Passover week. It includes Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, also known as Palm Sunday; the Passover meal and the institution of the Lord’s supper; Jesus’ trial and crucifixion of Jesus and His burial; and the first day of the feast of unleavened bread, which was a Holy (Sabbath) day. This lesson is the fulfillment of the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9:

9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. Zech 9:9 (KJV)
